Randomness

Damn you, facebook, and your addicting ways. I hate you. You're too political, and too much of a popularity contest. And yet, I have a strong desire to just join any group that seems interesting and adding random people I only vaguely remember from high school.

I think I need to take a day off.

Christopher Moore's Lamb is a great book. Hilarious. I enjoy.

Emma keeps going to the washroom BESIDE or ON her litter box, but not in it. What a weirdo. You'd think she's rebelling, but who needs to rebel when we feed her treats and grapes every day?

Only 4 shifts left at work. The countdown has begun :D

In 12 hours, I will have finished my 5 hour shift.

Shit, I need sleep.

Check out new pics on Life and Pictures.

Just Some Thoughts

- How can one say "titties" on tv, and yet "midget" is bleeped?

Ok, so it was only one thought.

I went to all you can eat sushi with my brother tonight. Too good. Crazily good. Too much food (three kinds of rolls, tempura, sushi pizza, salmon roses, spring rolls and ice cream). The nastiest thing came in our spider roll, but we didn't know what it was. There were legs (which, to me, are gross but Al is able to eat them), but something big. We asked the waitress and she said it was the head. Ew. Seriously. Al took a pic with his camera, just for the nasty memory. Good times.

So tired. This working for a living stuff isn't all it cracked up to be.

Our Little Trooper

This is Marshmallow.

She is our family's resident guinea pig. She's cute, loveable and loves to sing. No, this isn't a dating profile. Today, I was patting Marshie and noticed she had a sunflower seed in her mouth. Thinking she was holding it, I thought nothing of it. Later, when giving her food, I noticed the seed was still in her mouth. I picked her up and we noticed that her bottom teeth were actually through the top of the seed.

This is the seed. You can see the two tiny holes where her teeth poked through. Scary. But, Al rushed Marshie to the emergency animal hospital, and the doctor easily removed the seed. I'm proud to report that our brave little piggie is happy and eating her midnight snack. Al wants me to mention that the visit to the animal hospital cost $120. A small price to pay for the health of our pig!

So, I've returned to Toronto. I miss NY. I miss Chris. I miss not working. I shake my fist at you, work!

I have uploaded a few pictures of our apartment in Brooklyn, and a few cute pictures of Chris and me. All can be found on my flickr website, to the right of this entry.

On a lighter note, I was fixing some shelves in fiction today, and I came across a book that had been discarded, I'm assuming in a rush so as not to be seen. The book, Naughty Bedtime Stories, had this synopsis (paraphrased) of one of its stories: "He's psychic. She has a dirty mind. They're a perfect match." Hilarious. What a teaser: how can the ACTUAL story be better than that description?!

I am really missing making cartoons, but I can't draw using touchpads (trust me, I've tried). Look forward to the following cartoons when I return:

- weird, hairy, fat, sailboat-pants man who watches us from his front lawn
- how to cross a street
- god damn!! that's a kickass tv!!
- how not to make a bloody mary
- the elusive bug

...and more!! Really, I have no idea if I will make those ones, but I'm sure they would be funny.

I also think that I have caught some kind of coughy bug. My chest hurts and feels full of grossness, so it's probably a chest cold. The rest of me is fine, and I'm feeling better now that I've had my beautiful drugs, but it gets really bad again at night. Huzzah. Something to look forward to after my promised buffalo chicken wings.

Got lots of news. Well. Not too much.

First of all, our furniture arrives today! Hoorah! Anytime between 9am and 1pm, so it's just a matter of waiting it out. And then the joys of building.

Our tv and stand arrive tomorrow, hopefully. Maybe Friday, I forget the dates. It's a nice, 30" tv, widescreen and thin. Very nice.

We went shopping yesterday, and I actually bought some things! I bought a dvd (Clerks, to round out Al and my Kevin Smith collection), and a jacket (brown, of course) from Gap. Sadly, I was only looking for a skirt or shorts and happened to only find the opposite. A few days ago, we went to a new and used bookstore nearby and I bought a few books, as well. I hope I have room in my bags to bring these all back! Hehe.

Almost finished Headhunter. So....close. Much enjoyed.

I dreamed last night that I was flying to Europe to see Chris, and I had to sit between four business people who only spoke about stocks and investments and bonds and such. I had one piece of Starburst left. I woke up thankful that he only lives in New York.

I like airplane dreams, because in them I can fool myself that I don't mind flying. In fact, I was terrified coming in to New York by myself. Not because I was by myself, but because, of everyone onboard, I felt the least experienced. Everyone knew when to expect that sudden jolt or know that, yes, the plane does go THAT CLOSE to the water when flying into Laguardia. I was hanging on for dear life. I didn't know that those fluffy clouds that look so harmless and beautiful from the ground give such trouble for airplanes -- going through them, one's stomach is thrown into your throat. Maybe it's just me.

In the dream, the plane didn't take off from the runway, but took off in an alley and dipsy-doodled around the city's high rises and schools (almost crashing into one that looked much like my university campus). I was calm. I hope I sleep and have that dream on the way back to Toronto.

When going over New York on Tuesday in the plane, I was struck by the number of pools I saw in the backyards of homes right on the waterfront. There were neighbourhoods upon neighbourhoods full of pool-equipped houses, but every once in a while there was a house without a pool. I couldn't help but think "haha, you have no pool!" before I realized that I, too, have no pool.

As Dad would say, we spent a week in Ikea today. Got many great pieces of furniture, but are still missing some key factors (a sofa bed, a tv, dvd player, kitchen table). So we will have to go out again soon (like, tomorrow) to see if we can find these items.

We went shopping yesterday. Guess which store I did not find that perfect skirt in? Damn you, self-imposed fortunes!! I just ate some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and I'm officially full now. For like, another 2 minutes. Hehe.

The air conditioner is up and running. Boy does it feel good. I will never take air conditioning for granted again. Going from a 90+F room to 77 is beautiful. If I wasn't so tired/hot in the living room, I'd pull out a simile. Like, a good, Romantic simile, found in Wordsworth or Blake. I miss reading poetry.

I am tempted to make up my own heat meter. Today (Friday? already?!), my underwear is only kinda sticking to my ass, so it's not too hot out today, but still hot enough to be kinda uncomfortable. Maybe tie in a fortune in there somewhere (you will find the perfect skirt at Macys?), and we're all set to go.

My New York entries are weird. I blame it on America.

Thursday, August 03, 2006

Still hot here in NY. I have the sexiest heat rash up and down both of my legs. Sexxxxxyyyyy. Sigh. It's hard to be motivated when it's so damn hot. We have an air conditioner -- Chris is currently installing it in the bedroom. So at least I can get to sleep before 3am tonight! The area is nice, but again, we haven't done much walking around due to the hotness. Maybe when it cools down (tomorrow, hopefully) we'll go for a longer walk, maybe even visit the local park. Tomorrow, we're going to start our furniture/appliances/kitchenware shopping, maybe go to Macys in Manhattan to buy some shorts and new sandals!

That's about it here. I'm going to go suck on some ice now, to cool down old fashioned style.

Peace out, homies.

New York is so freaking hot. Seriously. 107 outside, 94 inside. Our skin is melting.
