... Bye Bye Bandwagon...

I'm in the basement, and TBS is on. Apparently, it's a Friends marathon. I am lazy, and therefore I haven't turned off the tv or changed the channel in like, 1 1/2 hours.

After watching these episodes, I kinda wished I had watched Friends when it was still hip.

It's Registration Time, Of Course!

I just finished registering and I got into all of my courses. I don't know why I'm so paranoid about such things... it appears that even the D levels (max 22 people per class) are empty (like, 16-18 spots remaining). Awesome.

My courses for Fall:
Michael Ondaatje
Lit and Media: From Page to Screen
Drama (Tragedy)
Plagues and People (in class, not online)

My courses for Spring:
Lit of South Africa
Post-modernism and Other Developments in Literature 1950 to the Present
Drama (Comedy)
Anthropology: Becoming Human (another A level, since I have the second half already)

Hoorah for getting the classes you want! Fun times. My refresh-button finger was hardly needed. Hehe.

We're BAAACCCKK

Ok, so Chris and I just got back from Connecticut. We drove down (11 1/2 hours there and 8 1/2 back) tree-lined highways the entire way, with good tunes playing the whole time. Nice. Some highlights of the drive there and back:

  • Mr Subb . There were so many signs for Mr Subb at the service stations. Cracked me up.

  • Farmington. This was a town just off of the i90. I just liked the name. I wanted to take a picture of the sign, but Chris was driving too fast. Pfft. (Just kidding, love).

  • Coxsackie. What a ridiculous name. I tried to take a few pictures of our ticket from the polls on the i90, but none show the name clearly enough.

  • Chris doing this.

  • And this.

  • Utica Zoo. Just so much fun to say ten times fast. Utica Zoo. Utica Zoo. Ewe Ta Kazoo.

  • The wedding was beautiful. Chris' cousin, Karen, looked so nice in her gown. I've never been to a Catholic wedding before, so it was interesting. The ceremony made me a little teary, because that will be us getting married in a little under a year! It was really nice to meet one side of Chris' family (we'll be going to Edmonton in a few weeks to see his father's side), and finally put faces to all of the stories I've been told over the last few years. I also look forward to seeing more of them, since we'll be fairly close in NY next year.

On a not-related note, I love watching kids practice for their G tests on our street and failing. Like, someone was just 3-point-turning and didn't go into reverse and ran over the curb. Fun times.

I watched the last 2 minutes of Super Sweet 16. It's the one where there are two super-rich girls, and they were throwing this bash to raise awareness for some teen cause (acne awareness? how to tie shoes? who knows...). Well, one (the blonde, whiney one) was all like, "wwaaaaahhhh. I'm TIRED. THIS WASN'T FUN. I WANT TO GO HOOOOOMMMEEEEE" and sulky. But the other one was all like "dude, let's do this again -- let's throw another party NOW." Weird. Not a very good episode. Little stupid whiney brats shouldn't complain about huge parites and raising awareness for static cling. I wish I was invited. *whisper* Assholes. *wink to Al*

An update from later tonight: I taught Emma a new trick tonight. When she was relaxing under the table, I shook her treat container and put it close to her. She stuck her head in and took them, one at a time. I managed to get a very blurry picture of it. It was far too cute. Click here to see the pic. Maybe she'll do it again?

    Anyway. Ta ta again!

    World's Best Picture

Ok, so I have to set this up.

For the final assembly at her school, mom was asked to find some pictures of her as a girl for a slide show. In looking, she came across this picture:

Cute, right? A little blurry, but cute. My Gramma told mom not to look at the other side, though. Naturally, she did, only to see this:

That's a shopping list! Apparently, my Gramma needed some "chili con carni" and "6 spaghetti." What's so sad about this isn't that it's on the back of mom's baby picture, but that my gramma apparently used to eat spaghetti and now refuses to eat it. She not only wrote spaghetti once -- she wrote it TWICE (but crossed it out once at the top). She apparently also needed "4 tins ...." of something. What could it be? THE MYSTERY WILL KILL ME.

Also, go to my Cartoon blog for a little fun and info about Guest Cartoonist Friday!

You're Where All The Poets Go

Last night was the Hawksley Workman concert -- our sixth in 5 years. Now, I may be biased, but I think this was *the* (if not the second) best HW concert. It was good. I won't bore you with the details, but he played his best songs (I was so excited that he played "Rain" and "You and the Candles" from Treeful of Starling and "Papershoes" and "Taratulove" are always great).

The banter in between the songs was hilarious, as always. I sometimes wonder why HW is a musician and not a comedian. A lot of his stories revolved around his childhood and strange bike accidents (including a fall downhill when a young Hawksley wanted to put on his sunglasses). Also, he claimed to have "given cool up for Lent." Good times.

I purchased yet another one of HW's recordings ("My Little Toothless Beauties") which is only available at concerts. So far, so good. Very different from previous cds. 7 HW cds for Mandy = 1 minute shy of 5 hours worth of HW.

Anyway. YAYY for HW. I'm going to cartoon some more and finish my 6th book this summer (what next?! I have no idea...).

It's been so long, my blogger friend.

It's 10:00am and I've been up for an hour. I work at 3 and I feel like poo. I'd use Kate's analogy to poo being smeared on one's shoe but it's a bit gross for me at the moment. Thanks Eric and Justin for getting me hooked on Zefrank. Chris thinks I'm insane because I eagerly await the 12 upload time. But you, sports racers, understand, right? *shifty eyes*

I've completed a few more books, bringing my total to 5 completed and I'm about halfway through a 6th. V for Vandetta is good because it's dystopic and haunting. I'd like to see the movie but I hear it's crap and I don't want to destroy the eerie spot that V has created in my life. I shall let it fester there, then, without seeing Natalie Portman bald and Agent Smith/Elrond in a mask and cape destroying London. *shudder*. I'm currently reading Mean Boy by Coady. I got it at work as an uncorrected proof (free!) copy, but it's very nice looking as opposed to the usual uncorrected proofs that have huge ugly banners declaring them as such so that when you're on the subway people think you're insane and wonder where the hell one got such a weirdass looking free book. Maybe I'm projecting. Anyway, the book (about a young poet in university who idolizes his famous poetry teacher) is good and very true to how an English student experiences university. I like the analysis of poetry. Some good comedy there. I have no idea what will be read next. Maybe the 9th Sandman book, or I may just crack and buy A Million Little Pieces simply to know what all the fuss is about. On a side note, his followup (My Friend Leonard) is now a paperback. Buy! Buy (or don't, I just wanted to save you the money of buying a $30+ pretax hardcover)!

I guess that's it for now, I think. I'm going back to sleep. Ta ta!
