Two days. Two exams. Too excited to be finished summer school.
... not that I didn't enjoy the courses. The Canadian Authors course was great, but the cinema... well. It wasn't what I had expected. But it still was interesting. Just not as interesting as other Leonard courses.
I've started the countdown: one week until book lists are to be posted online for the Autumn term. I'm such a nerd, but I really really want to know what I will be reading and get a head-start by buying them from work for major savings. Hehe. And I have decided not to kill myself over 10 English courses this coming year: I will be taking Psychology in the Fall, and if I like it, will take the second half in the Spring session. Tons of reading, but not fiction. Thanks for convincing me, everyone. On a related note, I checked how many credits I need after this coming year: I need a few Cs (2? I think?) and 2 Ds. That's it. Maybe I can finish in 3 1/2 years...? That'd be great. No more concrete, cold ass buildings.

congratulations on finally finishing summer school! i was as excited as yourself (if not more) when my dreadful class was over. i believe my reaction was along the lines of jumping in the air and clicking my heels together twice. (yes, it's physically possible......when you're overjoyed, you have the energy to do anything. ANYTHING.)
booklists already? my, you are a nerd. as am i. i too am looking forward to my reading lists - which would undoubtedly consist of great feminist philosophers/writers such as adrienne rich and marilyn frye. i cannot wait to indulge myself in their comforting words of "socialist propaganda". ;)
anyway, i've almost completed my summer reading list and would like to read something... challenging, weird - with an original plot. that is, not your basic love story or mystery. naturally, i am turning to you, my fellow english major friend, for advice. actually, i need your help. i remember you were telling me about a book that was centered on a house with windows? or doors? and it was fairly thick in size but i remember you saying it was a very different read. what was the title of the book again? do you know what i'm talking about? or am i just hallucinating things again?
anyway, enjoy the rest of your summer!
love,
kate
Yayy for the end of crappy classes. I can see you clicking your heels together, too. But does it take simply being "overjoyed?" Because I swear I saw you do it like, a million times on MSN when we were discussing the Coldplay concert.....
I like Adrienne Rich - we've read many of her poems in English courses. Marilyn Frye doesn't sound familiar though...
Ok, so what's up with everyone suddenly realizing the awesomeness of House of Leaves?? You are the third person in the past few months to ask me about it. It really is a good book... I can't explain it though. It is a weird read, and it will take you some time (and you need to be COMPLETELY absorbed in it), but you will never regret it. Great book. Good luck :)
Enjoy, and let me know if you want any more suggestions. It's why I'm here.
Miss you, Kate!
oh mandy, when it comes to chris martin, bryan webb, and gord downie im always overjoyed and those heels of mine are constantly clicking. ;)
THE HOUSE OF LEAVES!!!!!!!! ahhh.. you have lifted a great weight off of my shoulders. thanks so much. i remember you told me about it when i used to work at chapters and i shrugged it off because i knew i wouldn't have the time to fully appreciate it. also, a few weeks ago i stumbled upon it at a used bookstore but unfortunately didn't have the money to purchase it... so now that i'm almost finished my summer reading list (and was able to save up a few extra bucks) i needed something to end my summer that was thought provoking - thus, not completely leaving my brain fried for the new school year (i did have some mindless reading ie. harry potter...i was VERY disappointed with J.K. Rowlings work this time around. but im sure you're not surprised. ha!).
by the way, a friend of mine recommended a book called "THE DANTE CLUB" for me to end my summer with. have you ever read this book? im debating which to choose. my funds are limited. but i'm very intrigued by this "HOUSE OF LEAVES" books, more now than ever (since you say a lot of people have been asking about it!).
thanks again for the title!
*chants* Franz Franz Franz *waits for heel clicks*
I've heard of "The Dante Club" but have not read it or know of anyone who has read it... that said, I have noticed it's getting more popular. I'd say go for House of Leaves. But then again, I'm biased. :) ...I won't comment on your reading of Hairless Potter.
Yeah, you won me over, Gillian. I looked at some of the online lectures the other day and I am both excited and scared shitless. But, I attribute that to knowing NOTHING of psychology. I'm looking forward to starting that reading eeearly so that I can understand it and reread it a few (dozen) times.
Gillian, was lunch Thursday or Monday/Wednesday? I'm free Thurs from 12-130, or after 3.
I thought it was Monday or Wednesday you were free? Either way, I have tons of breaks :)
Wednesdays it is, then. :)
