Overheard Conversation:
"Why weren't you in class last week?"
"I had an allergic reaction to Tylenol 3s."
"Oh... I know someone with chocolate allergies, too."
"... what?!"
I...HATE... Harry... Potter.
I hate him and he's only a fictional character. He has made working absolute hell because every single bloody phone call is to pre-order his overhyped book. I'm sorry to offend those who like this Harry Potter, but it is all a huge nuisance. I'm just thankful that it'll be over soon (within the next six months at least?).
On a related note, I wanted to rant about group presentations. I have to do one for a course this summer, and I don't particularly like one of the group members due to incorrect and heavily biased comments s/he has made in class discussion. I recently sent my group members an email (as their email addresses were given to the entire class in the second week of school), suggesting we get together to discuss what we want to cover in the presentation. Well, I just received an email from this disliked individual, stating that s/he has already contacted the group members and scheduled a time... however, in her/his forwarded email, I discovered that it was only addressed to the two other group members. So, s/he disregard the list of group names that were given out in the second week of class (which has the email addresses on it), and made up a meeting without telling the one person in the group that s/he does not know personally. On top of all of this, despite making her/his "meeting schedule" (one of these days being today), s/he did not come to class. So, if I had known about this meeting, it would not have taken place because only two of the four of us actually attend classes regularly. I don't even know who the third person in our group is, as I have never heard the person's name mentioned or called in class.
I hate group presentations.
Today, a coworker and myself were contemplating the lack of conversational etiquette books. This stemmed from a rather awkward conversation that I had at cash with a former classmate. We really didn't know each other, and I believe that he wouldn't have remembered my name if it hadn't have been for my name tag. How does one talk (or better yet, how is one supposed to talk) with someone they don't know but feel they should know?

1. harry potter is the shiznat. im sorry that his popularity and overratedness has ruined his coolness for you. perhaps one day, when a new fictional hero/heroine emerges and overshadows mr. potter (or when he turns the legal age and turns into a sexy bearded "muggle-rock star" that has jam sessions with... hawksley workman?) your opinion of him will change. slightly? maybe.
2. i too hate group projects for several reasons. first of all, i hate speaking in front of people. i know its strange because working at chapters (or any retail store) requires us to make presentations in front of strangers, so i should be used to it, right? but no. i get weird, freaky anxiety attacks whenever it comes to class presentations. so i absolutely avoid them at all costs. i also end up being grouped with some pretentious ass who knows also has very biased (mostly sexist) remarks. you can just imagine how irritated i was.

don't. why pretend?
4. i miss you.
word.
1. So you've turned to the dark side too. Just kidding. It's not that I hate Harry Pothead...well, ok I do. But I think that there are many BETTER pieces of LITERATURE that could have this amazing publicity and popularity. But if he does get old and become a rock star I may be a tinge bit interested.
2) You? Anxiety attacks?? I don't believe it. It really sucks though. I used to be really bad, but this class isn't too big, and I know most of the people in it quite well. Shouldn't be too bad, except that I'm stuck doing my presentation with two old, annoying women. Oh well. That's what I get for not going first and alone, right?
3) I agree, I don't need to pretend. But when it's someone you were in a very small class with, it's a little embarrassing not being able to talk.
4) I miss YOU. You should come visit us sometime, we can share a chocolate cake at the Cafe afterwards ;)
